Within hours of CahowCam star "Rainbow" fledging, online observers watched a land crab moving into the burrow.
It remained there for at least a week turning over and eating the nesting materials and 3 months worth of detritus, until the chamber was clean. It is one of many behaviors that was suspected but never witnessed that the CahowCam has now proven. The thoroughness of the cleaning was a surprise as the chamber is now spotless and prior to this there was no way to know if it was the cahows, the crabs, the skinks or the ants cleaning it all out.
Documenting these activities is another first for the CahowCam!
